  • Territory Magazine / Kaelen Johnson, Skincare Maven

It was a warm and windy day in Tucson when I first met Kaelen. With the first true heat wave of the summer building, I stood in front of an unmarked warehouse trying desperately to keep my dress from billowing over my head ala Marilyn Monroe. As I curse my ignorance, the door opens to a gorgeous, fresh-faced woman whose infectious energy washes over me immediately. She ushers me in as she excitedly tells me that she just found out she had been featured in French Vogue.

  • Welcome

Over 20 years ago, I worked at Canyon Ranch as an herbal therapist performing herbal body wraps, aromatherapy and aloe glaze treatments. This sparked my interest in using essential oils and herbs as a natural way to care for the skin. Driven by my passion for healthy skin and non-toxic ingredients, as well as needing to stay in Tucson for my young son, I decided to go to a local cosmetology school to become an aesthetician. Due to my experience in a traditional beauty school setting, I felt there were a lot of things that could be improved upon. This led me to open Pure Aesthetics Natural Skincare School in 2006. We teach a holistic aesthetics program dedicated exclusively to skincare using only non–toxic ingredients.

Our skin is our largest organ and our first line of defense from environmental attacks, so I care deeply about the products I use. I began researching ingredients and I discovered that a lot of skincare product lines that claim to be natural still contain toxic chemicals. Often times, it felt like I had to be a chemist to decipher all of the long words in the ingredient list. Believing that a truly natural, holistic and non-toxic skincare line was possible, I formulated Kaelen Harwell to be used exclusively at Pure Aesthetics. However, after working with the products for three years at the school and seeing the results they were producing the demand for expansion and a retail line began to grow. In November 2015, Kaelen Harwell officially launched!

Just as skin is constantly evolving, so too is my journey in skincare. In this blog, I plan on sharing information about skincare, health and wellness.
    I hope you enjoy!

Holy cocktail for your face! If you know me at all you already know I have a major love of fruit enzyme exfoliators. They are an amazingly gentle way to naturally remove dull dead skin without the harsh side effects that synthetic or stronger exfoliants can have on sensitive skin (like mine and plenty of my facial clients). Baby soft skin minus the irritation? Yes, please! That being said I am always on the hunt for more great products with fruit enzyme power. Enter my newest obsession: Kaelen Harwell products. I discovered this lovely Esthetician created, non-toxic, vegan, cruelty free, sustainably packaged, made in the U.S.A, organic and wild-crafted, results driven skin care line at Indie Beauty Expo LA for the 1st time.

Funny story… I actually saw Kaeleen while enjoying some of the lectures as she was sitting slightly in front of me a few chairs over and I thought, “damn, she has seriously lovely glowing skin”, having zero idea who she was at the time. 30 minutes later I am in Makeup Artist and Esthetician Utopia exploring all the amazing Indie Beauty booths and listening to a lovely gal tell me about the Kaelen Harwell Rejuvenating Pineapple Papaya Enzyme Masque when none other than the glowing gal I saw before walks over and is Kaelen. Ok sold, gimme that masque, gorgeous girl! They were both so sweet and full of information I seriously wanted the whole line, and still do, but I only resisted because I had given myself a 1 product limit from each line to try as much magic as possible.

So back to the Rejuventating Pineapple Papaya Enzyme Masque- it is lovely! I am wearing it as I type this and loving every minute knowing how nice I’ll be glowing once I remove it. It is a powder or masque with not only fruit enzyme but also kaolin clay for a double dose of skin tightening love for your pores.

You simply mix ½ tsp with a bit of liquid of your choice (I like using a rose hydrosol or coconut water personally) to form a thin paste and apply with a facial brush or your fingers to freshly cleansed skin. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, remove thoroughly, pat dry, try to stop petting your now baby soft face and carry on with your regular serum/lotion/oil/cream routine. I use this masque twice a week or anytime my skin is feeling a little dull or dry.

Success! Feel free to continue shopping or head to your cart .
